Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and currently based in Charlotte, NC, Fénix Castro blends political reflection with deeply human storytelling, exploring themes of colonialism, love, grief, contradiction, and resilience. Influenced by artists like Zack de la Rocha, Silvio Rodríguez, Leonard Cohen, and Vico C, he moves fluidly between rap, spoken word, and bolero-inspired melodies. His independent releases include “La Candela,” “Echar el Resto,” and “Bolero de esperanza,” alongside collaborative projects like the 2022 album KOKEDAMA with Arizona rapper Ohpenmiind, addressing inequality, immigration, Latino empowerment, and hope. Beyond his solo work, Fénix is also part of the rapcore duo Yuca Brava with producer and musician ANGLADA.
